OMG tripped over this site looking for something else entirely. I do tech all day/everyday it was only a matter of time finding this site.
Sending my first (Maggie) to college this fall, my second (Christina) won the local beauty pageant and is in Russia studying for the summer, and my baby (Libby) is dating, and finding out that working everyday is tougher than it looks.
Hope to see someone? at the reunion.

Like Neal McQuone, I am out of touch with technology and I live in a remote area. I found this site accidentally while trying to find info about Clare Noonan. Imagine my surprise to read through old posts and find I'd been the subject in some!. I'm sure the interest in the Kiss Concert was the company and NOT the band, though my students think it is way cool that I saw Kiss live and even cooler that I played football--it's always the quiet ones you have to watch out for!
Perhaps it was this post that prompted John's surprise contact with me last year. It's nice to be part of the new century and to hear about many of you. Did anyone know anything about Mark and Linda Kenny?

Hi Lisa (and other Staples Class of '80 folks). The reunion format is beginning to firm up, but there's still a lot to do! We have a website that people should be aware of which is -link-. It's just in development now, but I believe there is some functionality as far as polls to get feeback to help shape the reunion events. The site may change to -link-, or people will get re-directed, but this has not been implimented, as of yet. Please visit -link-, and we welcome any feedback. Thanks!

Hi all. I just wanted to remind everyone that the fund raising concert I mentioned a couple of months ago in memory of our classmate, Susan Lloyd, is taking place this Thursday night at the Fairfield Theatre Company. We have an impressive line-up of musicians performing including Mystic Bowie, a majorly cool reggae artist who is also the lead singer for the Tom Tom Club (along with former Talking Heads members Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz), and numerous others, including a handful of Staples almuni (Suzanne Sherman Propp, Scott Lebish, Tim DeHuff, among others). As mentioned in my last post, I am not promoting this concert for personal gain, I am just hoping to spread the word so that Susan's friends and classmates can honor her memory in a way that can help other students stricken with cancer so that they may have the financial ability to attend school while coping with astronomical medical bills. Many of you wrote to me personally and asked to post information on this site. Please visit -link- for more info, as well as -link-. You may also email me directly at manningk@optonline.net if you would like to find out how to contribute if you are unable to attend the show.

Now that almost all of the guilty parties have put messages up on this board, I want to drag out one of my favorite Westport stories. I’m hoping that the statute of limitations will protect the guilty, but I will not name names, since it appears some of them may run for elected office. There used to be a group of kids who were given the keys and a nod from the owner to run the Baskin Robbins downtown on the Post road. These wise guys quickly learned that the empty whipped cream cans had enough nitrous oxide left in them to cause massive hallucinations. Needless to say that after an entire day of dishing out banana splits etc., there were cases of empty whipped cream cans, ready to go. It was not long before many Westport teenagers, looking to leverage their delinquency, came to understand the benefits of hanging out at the ice cream shop around closing time. That is how Baskin Robbins in Westport, CT came to be known as “PARTY CENTRAL”.

STAPLES PLAYERS REUNION May 24, 2009
Greetings Staples Players alumni and friends of Staples Players!
As you may or may not know, 2009 marks Staples Players' 50th birthday! We are excited to announce a special event we are planning to celebrate this great organization and bring together as many Staples Players alums as possible. We hope you will mark your calendar and save the date of Sunday, May 24th, 2009. This is the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, which we chose so that people would take advantage of the long weekend and come to Westport. The event will take place at Staples and will feature musical numbers, stories, photos and video from past Players productions.
Please email StaplesPlayers50@gmail.com if you are interested in hearing more about this event – how to get tickets, get involved, etc. Please include your graduation year, email address, what shows you were involved with and what role you had in those shows (tech, pit, cast – if so, what roles played).
We will offer more information about this exciting event in coming weeks – for now, we hope that you forward this message on to your high school friends and start to make your travel plans. Please see below for how you can help us.
We are very much looking forward to this exciting event – help us spread the word!
Happy New Year, Staples Players
Things we are interested in hearing from you – please respond if there is anything you can help with:
-Do you have a particularly funny and/or touching anecdote about your time in Players that you would like to share? If so, please email StaplesPlayers50@gmail.com. We are looking for some people to share stories during the celebration.
-Do you have a sibling that was also in Players that might be able to attend the event with you? We are looking to put together a number in the show celebrating siblings involved with Players and would like to include as many people as possible. Please note that this includes actors, pit and tech.
-Do you have photos or videos of past Players productions to share with us? If so, please email KerryLongPhoto@gmail.com. We are not only interested in possibly featuring them in the celebration but copying them (including transferring videos to DVD) to keep in the Staples Players archives.

Damn, I think I pressed the wrong button. If this gets posted twice, my bad. Good thing I learned to type.
Feel free to ignore me. Blame it on a new audience and way too much time on my hands.
I've got a laundry story for everyone's enjoyment.
When I first retired and took over the household duties, my wife wanted to be sure that I was familiar with proper laundry protocol. Therefore, not only did she give me hands on training, but she wrote everything down as well. (she knows I'm not too bright)
After a few weeks she quitely tells me that I have to stop putting our then 13 yr old daughter's bras in the drier because I was shrinking them.
I assured her that I was doing no such thing, because not only did she tell me not to do that, but she wrote it down too. Never mind the fact that I had prior knowledge of these facts before her training and documentation.
I explained to my wife that our little girl was growing up. The situation was not one of shrinkage, but rather growth.
Seeing as I was new to my Domestic Godliness and wanted to fully master all my new responsibilites I felt it was only appropriate that I have a conversation with my daughter and explain the situation.
My only stipulation was that I would need a signed release of all liability for any future mental scaring which might occur.
Needless to say, I was relieved of this duty post haste.
Have a good weekend everybody. remeber to tip your waitress.

Robin, Yes I do remember you from Coleytown. We had a science class together. Don't remember what grade exactly or the teacher's name. I think it was an older man. One of the Slater twins was in the class. Again, don't remember which one, but I do remember their mother use to dress them alike, only one in blue, one in brown. They use to leave class, go to the bathroom, change clothes and go back to the others classroom. This was big fun and eventually led to the other teacher, an older lady, having a nervous breakdown and leaving school before the year was done.
I think we might have been in Spanish together, but I'm not sure. all I remember about Spanish at Coleytown was that we had to pick a Spanish name that the teacher then called us. I picked Carlos. funny that Carlos Santana became my spiritual leader later in life. the other thing I remember is that the spanish teacher was a hot little latin lady.
I also remember teasing you some. About what, I don't remember. Please accept my belated appology. Damn, if I keep this up, this board is going to turn into a 12 step program; or at the very least Dr. Sholes is going to have to start charging me by the hour, and I don't think I can afford a NY doctor's hourly rate. How does that actually work? 30 minutes on the couch and a free set of insoles? Sorry about that Mark. I'm sure you've heard them all by now and are sick of them. In all sincerety, congratulations. the check is in the mail. I figure it's best to get you on retainer ASAP because I am a head case. I promise, no more from me.
Speaking of twins and their tormenting of teachers. Their were twin girls, Liz and Ann something, I think. One of them was in a highschool english class of mine. They would take each others finals if one was stronger in a subject. Pure genius.
Got to go. need to hang clothes and throw some stuff in the drier.

Now Kim, stop that. you'll make me blush. We obviously didn't travel in the same circles 30 years ago. I actually found my yearbook in the back of a bookshelf, blew off the dust, and looked to put a face with the name. It is obvious that you were waaaay out of my league. After spending some time exploring your bands website, it is clear that is still probably true. WOW, I bow in the presences of greatness. you are very talented.
If you enjoyed my initial rant, keep checking back in. After reading all of this board, there are a couple of memories I just have to comment on.
My humor is usually self-deprecating, so hopefully I won't piss too many people off; but there are a few things that are simply too good to pass up.
Unfortunately I don't have time right now. As I said, my current occupation is Domestic GOD. Friday is laundry day and I've got a few more loads to do.
Damn, I think I'm turning into a chick.
How about DA BEARS.

Blame Andy Siegel for this, and maybe Greg Beard for "outing" me. After 25 + years Andy turned over enough rocks and out I climbed. He told me about this site, so I thought I'd come out and play.
First, I guess it is proper to say hello to everyone. Though I didn't spend much of senior year on campus because I choose to go the workstudy / stoner route, I do have some memory of the HIGH school years.
Before I provide any personal update, I want to say WOW! I remember being called into a class assembly at either the end of 8th or beginning of 9th grade at Coleytown, and being told by Mr Welsh that our class would never amount to anything. Maybe not his exact words, but that was the jist of his msg. This was either right after, or right before someone, who to protect the innocent shall be nameless, lit the flags on fire.
After spending the last few days reading all the msgs on this board all I can say is "look who's laughing now fat boy." What a great list of accomplishments everyone has achieved. What a great group of well rounded grown-ups we've become. Who would have thunk. Doctors, lawyers, artists, writers, musicians, business owners and professionals. Moms, Dads, even a grandma. Opps, sorry, Nanna.
I guess approaching the 30 yr milestone is making everyone a bit reflective. Though I can't say high school was the "best" time of my life, as I've been trying to have fun all my life; it was a good time. Many fond memories, and more than a few others I'd prefer to forget.
As for what happened to me after Staples.
While most of you seem to have gone on to colleges and careers of note, I choose another path.
I too went on to college. Clown College. I was on the 6 year program. Unfortunately I never graduated. I just couldn't get the hang of walking in those big shoes, and my aim with the squirting flower was always off the mark. But thanks to high school I was able to pack 20 people into a VW. I was eventually kicked out after stealing all the seltzer (needed it for my gin) and sniffing all the black powder, so the cannonball guy could never close the show.
While my dreams of the Big Top were crushed, all was not lost. There was always the carnival.
I started off at the bottom, spreading pixie dust on the Tilt-a-whirl, but after only 10 short yrs I was promoted to barking for the Yak women. I finally had to leave after a torid affair with the bearded women that ended tragically.
Because I always had a thing for farm animals, I eventually mooooved to Cowlumbus Ohio where I've been living and loving life for the last 17 years.
Married 20 years this fall. 2 kids (daughter 16 and one step from being sent to a convent, simply for my sanity. Son almost 13. Hell on wheels. A chip off the old block. Damn, payback really is a bitch)
Retired 4 years ago, at 43, after too many years traveling the country selling various computer services. Wanted to finally spend some time with my wife and kids and decided that was more important than acquiring more "stuff." I am now a Domestic God! Enjoying making my wife and kids eyes roll.
I'm the poster child for one of life's truths. It doesn't always take a formal education to achieve your dreams. Hard work and a line of BS that allows you to sell icecubes to eskimos is a viable path as well. (I'm sure most of you figured out where the BS stopped and the truth began in my "update.." I just didn't want Hank, Hans, and AndyT to think they were alone in their humorous outlook on life. Some really funny stuff on this blog.)
Cheers to the class of 1980. Congratulations everyone for not being afraid to dream and reaching for the stars.
Oh yeah, almost forgot. Luigi for President? The hell with that. Way too much talent to waste on such a mundane title. Think BIG! Go for Benign Dictator of the Cosmos. At the very least hold out for Sage or Caliph

Hey everyone. I would like to tell our classmates who knew and loved Susan Lloyd, our fellow 1980 classmate and friend, that a concert to benefit the foundation named in her memory, The Susan Fund, will be held at the Fairfield Theatre Company on February 27th. This is not a promotional notice... please understand that. I would like to just let her friends know so that they can come celebrate her life that ended far too early just after we graduated from Staples. This would be an honor to her family and would mean so much to them and her friends. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season.

Mark / Glenn, Allens was a fun place to work. You guys must have been on differnt shifts then me. I remeber working with Todd Alley and Joe Carusone, but then again we were in the kitchen and not out on the floor. Glenn you got it wrong, the secret to the clam chowder was using Fat Back for the Roux.
And speaking of the Hillspoint gang that was a pretty cool school. I still have vivid memories of that place. Not too many Elementary schools have a bathroom, water fountain and door to the outside in every classroom. keep up the posts everyone. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

Gary has changed his name to Gardner Stevens. He is an artist and also works at as a designer at a high end tile shop in Westport.
Connecticut just issued it's first marriage licenses to same sex couples after the court ruled that civil unions did not grant the folks same rights as married folks. So at least one state didn't go backwards this fall.

Hey All.
Mark, thanks for your notes about Ed Huggins. It was so exciting to see Obama elected president, what a huge step forward for the US. I hope that prejudice will continue to decline as the new generations come into their own.
I wanted to add a personal note, and I'm hesitant to do so, but the recent election was extremely bittersweet for me. To have three states amend their consitutions to prevent gay marriages at the same time we elected our first mixed race president brought forward the prejudice that still exists. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I pray for the next generation of children that happen to be gay that this country will soon give equality to gay people. Prejudice hurts deeply, and the story about Gary Stevens exemplifies that.
My experiences exemplify that too. Just two examples, when I was a Senior at Staples my parents were sending me twice a week to the foremost psychiatrist in the country for changing people's sexuality from gay to straight. He wanted to give me drugs that would make me sick to my stomach and show me gay porn so I would associate gay sex with nausea. I refused, and got through it by pretending I was straight to the psychiatrist and my parents. Another incident: I had to sit at the dinner table at my home and listen to my family joke about rounding up all gay people, (they used a more derotory term of course,) and putting them on an island to be left to starve or be killed by firing squad. I was probably in 9th grade at the time.
I just ask people to imagine what that would be like, to have your own family joking about killing people like yourself without knowing you are one of those people . . . taking every bit of self control to show no reaction or emotion.
If this saves one kid growing up from going through the same thing it is worth the post. The AMA removed homosexuality from its list of psychiatric disorders in December, 1973. In 35 years I don't think enough progress has been made.
Thanks All, and thank you all for all your posts, I read every one of them and enjoy all the fond memories of growing up in Westport so much! Keith

Tomas,
I can't be sure about working together with you but I do remember Ed. I don't know if I'm imagining this but I want to say he had a daughter, Pilar and the last name was Huggins and we went to Hillspoint together. What I remember about Beck & Quint was buying my dream Bose 301 speakers from there. I had them for probably 20 years until the woofers disintegrated. I used to mix studio records on those speakers and though they were totally inaccurate, I knew how music was supposed to sound because I spent so much of my early life listening to records on them. I also remember the day that a small Japanese man walked in with a briefcase and asked to see Ed because he had something to show him that would change the world. He pulled out a small rectangular box, opened it up and put in a cassette tape, plugged in some headphones and handed it to Ed to hear. It was the first Walkman. (for those who wonder where the iPod came from).

To The Allen's Clam House Alumni.
A few years ago I ran into Wayne Ucciline up in Stratford Ct.
He was head cook, bottle washer and along with his Brother Ron, who ran the front, made it a pretty good place to work. Anyway,Wayne was smiling from ear to ear reminiscing about the old days at Allens. He still remembered everyones name, and funny situations that happened there. He said the town wouldnt renew his lease and he had to shut down.
But he also told me that he had openned a small seafood place outside the airport in Stratford.
So if any of you are ever in the Sikorsky airport area at lunch time, take a moment to try and find this place. Im sure he be very happy to see you and reminisce about the good times we had.
One of the secrets of Allens was there clam chowder. I remember learning the secret recipes...
...a few cans of Cambells Chunky New England
a few cans of minced clams
and some tabasco and worcester sauce
very smple but a few small ingredients made a good chowder a great chowder.

Hey Y'all,
I thought I'd chime in and say hello. I just heard about this site from my older brother and he suggested I check it out.
Wow! After reading through these threads, it's like looking backwards through the telescope of time. I see at least three people here who I have immortalized in home movies from my fifth birthday party (you know who you are John, Hank and Luigi) and I completely forgot that so many people passed through Allen's Clam House as their entry into the work force. Sadly, I took my daughter to the little park there recently this summer and had to try and explain there used to be a restaurant on the spot we were standing where her daddy learned to wash dishes and fold napkins.
I see Tomas Bremin's name all over here. Good God, Beck & Quint? Did we work together??? ( I admit too many brain cells are long since dead to confirm but I want to say we did work there together.
And was everyone in Westport at that show at Pinecrest where the guy fell out of the tree??? I don't remember seeing so many classmates but who knew? Anyway, nice to see so many familiar names after so long.
All the best,
Mark

Glenn - I remember that Christmas eve, I seem to remember us standing around the island in the kitchen drinking. Although, that probably could have been any other night as well.

My dad passed about 9 years ago in November. My parents loved all of the activity around the house.

Well Glenn,
You are welcome. But remember you and your family are practically family. Plus with Marion and Charlie Lewis living no your street helped a lot considering they were family too.

Thanks Amy but...
I think you have Robin and Lisa mixed up. I know Lisa attended "UVM",then married and settled in the Burlington area.
I thought Robin (the younger of the two) married Al Ten and moved to Va ?
The Greenhuts were a great family.
When Mrs Greenhut passed years ago I think half the town turned out for her funeral. One of my favorite memories was one Christmas Eve a few of us ended up back at the Greenhuts after going to midnight mass.I think you were there John L.
The same goes for the Davidsons...I dont know how many of you ever met Liz's parents but you couldnt get better people.Lots of great memories thanks to you and your family Liz.
