For those that missed it, my childhood home on Hillandale Road was the January 5th "Teardown of the Day" at Westportnow.com. I know many Westporters have been in and out of that house over the years. My parents finally sold it and moved to Texas to be warmer, and to be near three of my sisters, and of course, their Grandchildren. We moved into the house in 1964; 45 years there. And it's going down.

I can't believe it has been over 30 years since our days at Staples, and now I am getting ready for my daughter's high school graduation. Where does the time go?

STAPLES PLAYERS REUNION May 24, 2009
Greetings Staples Players alumni and friends of Staples Players!
As you may or may not know, 2009 marks Staples Players' 50th birthday! We are excited to announce a special event we are planning to celebrate this great organization and bring together as many Staples Players alums as possible. We hope you will mark your calendar and save the date of Sunday, May 24th, 2009. This is the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, which we chose so that people would take advantage of the long weekend and come to Westport. The event will take place at Staples and will feature musical numbers, stories, photos and video from past Players productions.
Please email StaplesPlayers50@gmail.com if you are interested in hearing more about this event – how to get tickets, get involved, etc. Please include your graduation year, email address, what shows you were involved with and what role you had in those shows (tech, pit, cast – if so, what roles played).
We will offer more information about this exciting event in coming weeks – for now, we hope that you forward this message on to your high school friends and start to make your travel plans. Please see below for how you can help us.
We are very much looking forward to this exciting event – help us spread the word!
Happy New Year, Staples Players
Things we are interested in hearing from you – please respond if there is anything you can help with:
-Do you have a particularly funny and/or touching anecdote about your time in Players that you would like to share? If so, please email StaplesPlayers50@gmail.com. We are looking for some people to share stories during the celebration.
-Do you have a sibling that was also in Players that might be able to attend the event with you? We are looking to put together a number in the show celebrating siblings involved with Players and would like to include as many people as possible. Please note that this includes actors, pit and tech.
-Do you have photos or videos of past Players productions to share with us? If so, please email KerryLongPhoto@gmail.com. We are not only interested in possibly featuring them in the celebration but copying them (including transferring videos to DVD) to keep in the Staples Players archives.
-Are you currently a performer or involved in the arts?

Hi to all,
The reunion was great fun, thanks so much for those of you who made it happen. I finally removed the last of the celebratory nail polish from my fingers today!! Seeing Seth S. again reminded me of the awesome party he hosted for what seemed like the whole Coleytown class of 75. Neil - when you've settled in Seattle give a call (206) 782-7607.

I really wish I could have made it... But I was relocating from Anaheim CA to Seattle, WA to go back to work for Boeing... as far as a 35th reunion, that will be great. I'd also like to see a 33 1/3 WWPT reunion (45 is too long to wait!)

oh my gosh, it is so fun to still hear from so many of our classmates that did not go this reunion! How fantastic and it also brings back so many memories-like when I first got my drivers lisence and was driving to see Suzanne K-a bee came flying in my window, I (of course) let go of the wheel to defend myself from the big bad bee and missed hitting her garage by 2 inches!! Oh yeah, brings back all kinds of fun memories!!!

My heart's desire was to join you in reunion, but due to my job transition, I couldn't. I've really enjoyed viewing the pictures and re-living great memories, through those of you in attendance at the reunion. I'm grateful to all of you who worked so diligently to put on our 30th and capture it for those of us who couldn't come. Are there any Staples Orphennians (Poland '78) who attended?

I had all intentions of going to the reunion but had to back out at the last minute. Saw the photos today and recognized some faces (Cindi, of course!)...heck, it has been 30 years! I know I haven't changed a bit...yeah, right. I'm looking like my Mom! eeghads..
Thanks for hooking me up with this site. Would love to connect with friends from so long ago! Hey, and that's the church where I got married 25 years ago!

WOW !!.. It looks like everyone had a blast, and thanks ever so much to Tracy Malone for taking all those pictures, lol.. even though I admitt to not being able to recognize everyone, but at the same time it was great to see those that I did recognize..
Even though I was not able to attend I am glad to see that everyone certainly seemed to have enjoyed themselves..
Cheers to everyone and all that made it the success that it was.. Job well done !!

I had all intentions of going to the reunion but some business obligations got in the way. I really hope to make the next one. I haven't been able to go to our reunions for one reason or another since our 10 year reunion. Where can I go to view the good times had by all?

I finally have made it on to Westporters.com-about time. Anyway, from Will, Dave, Shelly, Pam, Lisa and I thank you all for making this such a rewarding experience. It was so fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves together. I was actually taken aback by the amazing camaraderie between everyone. It was a delight to be part of....looking forward to seeing everyone again (hopefully sooner vs. later!)

To Cindy, Will, Tracy, Pam and all others involved in getting this reunion off the ground and seeing it to the end - 1 million thanks for all your time and effort! It was indeed a success! The euphoria of Friday night, the more tranquil Saturday night, and the relaxing Sunday afternoon bringing it all to a close.
It was nice to see old classmates, reconnect with some with promises of not letting so much time slip by, remember things past which had been forgotten, and put into perspective where we are, who we have become, and where we came from.
Ditto to David's comment - "let's keep this forum going".
great to see all of you, and again 1 million thanks to the organizers!

Anyone who is shut out of the Westport Inn or just wants to save a little on the rates can get a room (as of now they are stil available) at the Hilton Garden Inn on North Main Ave in Norwalk. This is not as conveniently located for the Saturday and Sunday events, but is probably a comparable drive time from the Black Duck.
The rate is $103 per night. It is a Triple A rate, but if you don't have Triple A and you speak to someone who asks you for a Triple A number ask to speak to the General Manager, Kevin Viteiri, and tell him you are coming for the Staples 78 reunion. You should be able to get that rate even without Triple A. The phone number is 203-523-4000.
I can vouch for the quality of this lodging, having been a fairly frequent customer there recently.

Julie Zweig and I are coming from Seattle to attend the reunion Sat. & Sun. and will be staying in lower Manhattan the week before on a mini-vacation without our families! We'd love to have dinner in NYC with former classmates. We haven't made it to any reunions so far and are looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting those again we just can't remember. lrech@nbbj.com or julieheine@hotmail.com.
I love the idea of 33 1/3 reunion with for PT folks. Does Malcolm still have his record collection?

Is there any musicians professional or closeted in our class still playing? My guitar and making music saved me in High School and has sustained me well into my adulthood..My first paying gig was at Grassroots and Pearls..a whopping 50.00 a night!..Anyone remember those places? At beach Sunday we should bring guitars and such and sing Eagles,Cat Stevens, Dan Fogelberg, Joni Mitchell, and Fleetwood Mac tunes. We can re-live our wasted youth.. .As I recall Kathy Higbee had a great voice and played guitar..and Nancy Markoff and Chris Creatura sing as well...I am game if some others are?

Speaking of the "next reunion"--why is it we only have them every 10 years instead of 5? And why didn't we at least have a 25th year reunion, since that is one of the biggest reunion years?
Any insight or info on this would be appreciated.

I'll ask Jim Rossi, Dave Schaffer, and Malcom to represent me in spirit. (From what I can remember, Malcom isn't a hugger, so force him into one for me!)

Hi Will Lloyd. I decided to glance at '78 to see if anyone posted anything, and here you are. 80's bulletin board is going crazy. Anywho, just wanted to say hi. Last I heard, which was probably at least 3 years ago, Kelly Frey (can't remember her married name) told me you were back in Westport. Hope all's going well.

We at Westporters.com just wanted to let you know that we've added a new feature which makes it very easy to communicate with your graduating class at Staples.
Now when you post on the bulletin board for your graduating class, the entry is sent by email to everyone from your graduating class whose profile is set to receive such messages. You can also post on the bulletin board of any other graduating class at Staples.
This should make it fast and easy to let others know important information, to request information from others, or to set up reunions or other activities.
We hope this new feature will be helpful to you.
Regards,
Customer Service at Westporters.com
