Thanks to Patrick, Kim, Laura and Amy for bringing back such wonderful memories of Belinda. My classmate from K to 12 - and my "little sister" in 5 Charlie Brown plays at Bedford Elementary! I remember her as an outgoing and generous ball of energy. She is missed and well remembered.

I knew Belinda from the 4th grade through the 8th grade before leaving Westport and remember her very well as such a sweetheart, fun and just as silly as I could be during that time. I revisited my 8th grade yearbook from Bedford Jr. and the last thing she wrote to me was "remember me." So I do.

I knew Belinda when I went to Bedford Jr. High. Several friends got together for a slumber party at her house and we had fun that night untangling yarn, lol! I always wondered how she'd turn out because so was good inside and out back then. I'm sorry she's gone.

I also was a friend of Belinda's and it really saddens me too to know that she is gone. We were very good friends in Bedford Elementary and I took dance lessons with her parents. Amy Strong said it right when she said that Belinda was like a Cinderella. She is missed.

I couldn't agree with Amy Strong Galen more. I didn't know Belinda de Jesus all that well but she was always very kind and very nice to me. I was terribly saddened to see that she had died. She was so pretty and petite and a very nice person. It's very sad that she's gone.

Hi all. I moved from Westport after 10th grade at Staples. I lost track of my Coleytown Elementary and Jr. High yearbooks a long time ago. If anyone still has access to them and has the time I would really appreciate if someone could scan my yearbook pics and send them to me. I know it's a pain, but if someone has the time and energy I would greatly appreciate it. Larry Perlstein was kind enough to scan a baseball picture from 9th grade but he doesn't have earlier books. I started Coleytown in 3rd grade and would have graduated from Staples in 1975. Thank you.

I'm sorry, Diane, but you've got it all wrong.
Belinda and I were best friends from the age of 4 to 9. She was a beautiful young girl who was crushed at an early age by a very difficult family situation. Both our parents were friends - you know, Joe and Bambi - the dance studio/house. Our parents all thought they were so wonderful - What a joke.
Belinda was the oldest of the, I can't remember how many children, and everything and everyone was her responsibility because she was the only child that wasn't Joe's daughter. Belinda was so kind to all her younger brothers and sisters, yet scared. I've always thought of Belinda as Cinderella.
Belinda chose to leave that house, and, yes, maybe she made some bad choices early on, but she had gotten her life together a few years later when I saw her again. Her choice to be with your brother David was a bad one.
When I heard that Belinda had died, it made me as sad is it makes anyone who truly knew her. She was a golden wisp in the wind, the kindest soul - and I hope anyone else who truly knew her understands.

Belinda was a true party girl. She was married to my brother David Haehl, class of '69, for a few years. We loved her. She was a sweet person, but she drank too much and it killed her.

Staples 1974 Reunion, October 9 - 11, 2009:
Hi to the class of '75! Sorry for the late post, but it's come to my attention that many of you aren't aware of the fact that your class was invited to our reunion bash.
We all have fond and funny memories of our classes and all the good times we had together - so why don't you join us for a fantastic weekend: Friday night at the Southport Brewery for a casual meet up/icebreaker, then Saturday we have our original Ultimate Frisbee team and Al Jolley coming out to put on a great show - THE game of the year celebrating the origination of the Ultimate sport and those great times at Staples. If you're a Frisbee player, contact us at -link- - the more players the merrier. Then join us at the Spinning Wheel for a night of great food, dancing and Frisbee fun. Eat, dance, party, eat, dance and party some more.
The fun doesn't end there - we of course will have the traditional Compo Beach brunch on Sunday at 11 am.
Please visit the site -link-, sign up, see who's coming and most of all, REGISTER to join us for what is certain to be the best reunion yet!
See you there I hope,
Stacey Clarfield Newman

I just wanted to pass on some news about Sally Rice, now Sally Jones. She's 2 years older than us, but we ran into each other here in Austin a while back. Sally's undergoing some pretty intense experimental cancer treatments at MD Anderson. She's blogging about it at --link-. So far it's going well.

STAPLES PLAYERS REUNION May 24, 2009
Greetings Staples Players alumni and friends of Staples Players!
As you may or may not know, 2009 marks Staples Players' 50th birthday! We are excited to announce a special event we are planning to celebrate this great organization and bring together as many Staples Players alums as possible. We hope you will mark your calendar and save the date of Sunday, May 24th, 2009. This is the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, which we chose so that people would take advantage of the long weekend and come to Westport. The event will take place at Staples and will feature musical numbers, stories, photos and video from past Players productions.
Please email StaplesPlayers50@gmail.com if you are interested in hearing more about this event – how to get tickets, get involved, etc. Please include your graduation year, email address, what shows you were involved with and what role you had in those shows (tech, pit, cast – if so, what roles played).
We will offer more information about this exciting event in coming weeks – for now, we hope that you forward this message on to your high school friends and start to make your travel plans. Please see below for how you can help us.
We are very much looking forward to this exciting event – help us spread the word!
Happy New Year, Staples Players
Things we are interested in hearing from you – please respond if there is anything you can help with:
-Do you have a particularly funny and/or touching anecdote about your time in Players that you would like to share? If so, please email StaplesPlayers50@gmail.com. We are looking for some people to share stories during the celebration.
-Do you have a sibling that was also in Players that might be able to attend the event with you? We are looking to put together a number in the show celebrating siblings involved with Players and would like to include as many people as possible. Please note that this includes actors, pit and tech.
-Do you have photos or videos of past Players productions to share with us? If so, please email KerryLongPhoto@gmail.com. We are not only interested in possibly featuring them in the celebration but copying them (including transferring videos to DVD) to keep in the Staples Players archives.
-Are you currently a performer or involved in the arts?

One last reminder ... the Staples Media Lab is willing to give WWPT alum some airtime during the class of 1973 reunion weekend. I've heard from a couple of people but if there's anyone else interested in participating, please let me know. No preparation is needed -- we just need some ipods with some classic music. Respond to me directly at lperlste@yahoo.com.

Here's the same offer I made to the class of 1973. If you were active on WWPT - read on! Hi everyone, some of you may remember me -- class of '75. I'm living back in Westport again and recently my sister ('82) and I visited Staples again and met with Jim Honeycutt who is the faculty advisor for WWPT. This year marks the 35th anniversary since the FM station went on the air, and some of you are the founding parents. If anyone is interested, we can get a couple of hours of air time over the reunion weekend to reminisce and play some good music, and Jim would like to videotape us for posterity. If you're one of the early radio-heads, email me (lperlste@yahoo.com) and we'll figure out a plan.

I know, I know ... it's so cliche ... but I'm living back in Westport. It's changed so much and in some ways, not at all. My sister (class of '82) and I went to Staples last week to visit WWPT and we got a tour of whole media center. What an amazing facility!
Anyway, if you're in Westport and want to get back in touch, drop me a line!
All the best,
Larry

We at Westporters.com just wanted to let you know that we've added a new feature which makes it very easy to communicate with your graduating class at Staples.
Now when you post on the bulletin board for your graduating class, the entry is sent by email to everyone from your graduating class whose profile is set to receive such messages. You can also post on the bulletin board of any other graduating class at Staples.
This should make it fast and easy to let others know important information, to request information from others, or to set up reunions or other activities.
We hope this new feature will be helpful to you.
Regards,
Customer Service at Westporters.com
